Ear problems and wound care: preventing scratching and head shaking
Dogs with ear infections, hematomas (aural hematomas), or surgical stitches on the head are especially prone to self-inflicted trauma. They often try to relieve discomfort by scratching or shaking their head, which can worsen wounds or damage stitches. In many cases, a plastic cone is prescribed, but this often compromises a dog’s quality of life.
The MPS-Head Cover forms a soft yet sturdy barrier that prevents direct contact with the affected area. At the same time, the dog’s hearing and comfort are maintained. Thanks to the adjustable fit, the cover stays in place without constricting, which is vital for ensuring normal breathing and circulation. The highly breathable fabric also supports recovery from ear infections, wounds, or surgical sites.
Innovative material and tailored fit: comfort comes first
What makes the MPS-Head Cover unique is its combination of functionality and pet-friendly design. With Kool-Tex fabric, the product is extremely breathable and hygienic, essential during inflammation or warmer seasons.
The inside features flexible internal ribs positioned to support the shape of the cover without applying pressure to sensitive zones. The fit is fully adjustable: the head circumference, neck circumference, and head-to-collar length can each be fine-tuned individually. This prevents shifting and allows the dog to wear the cover for extended periods without discomfort.
Hearing protection during MRI procedures
In veterinary MRI scans, the loud acoustic signals are often underestimated. MRI machines produce high-volume sounds that can cause anxiety, stress, or even hearing damage in dogs. The MPS-Protective Head Cover offers a dual function in this setting: noise reduction and physical protection. Read more about the cover’s MRI-safe application in our dedicated blog.
Foxtail protection: a silent threat
While walking through grassy areas, dogs can easily come into contact with foxtails. These barbed grass seeds can enter the ears, nostrils, or skin, potentially leading to severe infections, abscesses, or even surgical removal.
The MPS-Head Cover significantly reduces this risk. By fully covering the ears, foxtails have no opportunity to embed in the ear canal or outer ear. Especially in spring and summer, when foxtails are most common, this form of head protection provides peace of mind and extra comfort for your dog.
Easy to use and built to last
The Head Cover is designed with ease of use in mind. Thanks to a combination of Velcro closures and snap buttons, the product is easy to secure. Head Cover Pads can be added for extra cushioning, especially for sensitive ears or post-op use. It’s important to regularly check the fit and adjust as needed. If in doubt, your veterinarian can help determine the correct size.
The MPS-Head Cover is machine washable at up to 90°C, making it ideal for repeated use. For optimal durability, we recommend removing the internal ribs, turning the cover inside out, and washing it in a laundry bag. Let it air dry, do not tumble dry.
Thanks to its reusable design and high-quality materials, the Head Cover is not only practical but also eco-friendly. It’s a smarter choice than disposable bandages or makeshift solutions like tape or gauze.
The Head Cover is suitable for small to large dogs and comes in five sizes. The right size is determined using three measurements:
Head circumference (measured behind the ears)
Neck circumference (at collar height)
Length from top of the head to the collar
If your dog falls between two sizes, choose the smaller one for a snugger fit. An accurate fit is key to ensuring both effectiveness and comfort.
Safety, comfort, and recovery go hand in hand
Whether it’s protection from external factors like foxtails, preventing self-trauma from ear issues, or supporting medical recovery, the MPS-Protective Head Cover Dog offers a thoughtful and complete solution. Let your dog heal in a way that is safe, comfortable, and stress-free, with the protection they truly deserve.
Use the MPS-Protective Head Cover for:
✓ Wounds or stitches on the head or ears (alternative to the collar!)
After a procedure or in case of an injury, the head protection helps to keep the area clean and protected. Has your dog had surgery on the head or ears? You can easily access the wound for care or check-ups at the vet. Also great for home use in the recovery period! The lightweight, breathable fabric allows the wound to heal optimally with access to enough oxygen. It prevents your dog from scratching, rubbing or accidentally hitting something. And that without that annoying plastic collar!
✓ Shaking a lot or flapping their ears
Some dogs often shake their heads, for example when they have an ear infection. To reduce this, you can thread the ears through the openings within the head guard and keep them securely in place. The Head Cover provides peace of mind, allowing the ear tissue to recover better.
✓ Sensitive ears or skin problems
Does your dog easily suffer from irritation or wounds on the ears? The soft, breathable fabric prevents dirt, moisture or licking from making it worse. Air can still get to the skin through the ribs in the Head Cover – which is important for a healthy recovery. For extra comfort, you can optionally add Head Cover pads.
✓ For bandages or ointments on the ears
If your dog has bandages or (ointment) medication on his ears, the Head Cover helps to keep it neatly in place. You can put the ears in the soft inner pockets if necessary, so that no ointment or wound fluid sticks to the coat.
✓ Protection against foxtails
Foxtails can be a major problem in the summer. These sharp seeds get stuck in the fur and can crawl into the ears – resulting in nasty inflammations. The Head Cover helps prevent foxtails from reaching the ear canal, especially in dogs with droopy ears or dense fur.
✓ Less stress at the groomer or in case of loud noises
Some dogs find blow-drying at the groomer quite exciting – that warm air and the loud noise close to their head can be very unpleasant. With the MPS-Head Cover, they often feel more comfortable. The ears flap less, and the sound and air pressure are muffled.
